How to choose kitchen cabinet hardware

Choose handles and knobs by checking the cabinet door style, existing hole spacing, comfortable grip and clearance around neighbouring doors and appliances. For replacement hardware, matching the existing centre-to-centre hole spacing can avoid unnecessary drilling.

  • Shaker cabinets: bar pulls, cup pulls and knobs can all work depending on the look you want.
  • Slab cabinets: simple bar or edge pulls usually keep the profile clean.
  • Replacing existing handles: measure the distance between screw holes before selecting a new pull.
  • Large drawers: confirm pull size and placement so the hardware is comfortable and visually balanced.

See our cabinet hardware sizing and placement guide for measuring details, or compare finishes with our cabinet styles. Hardware can be planned as part of a Kitchen4Less kitchen and cabinet project.

Common hardware questions

Should every cabinet use the same handle size?
Not necessarily. A kitchen can use coordinated sizes while keeping the same finish and hardware family.

Can I reuse the holes from my current handles?
Often yes, if the new pull has the same centre-to-centre measurement. Confirm the measurement before ordering.

Knobs or pulls?
Both can work. Pulls provide a larger grip area, while knobs create a smaller visual detail. The cabinet style, drawer size and preferred look should guide the choice.
