Kitchen Renovations
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Southern Ontario?
Cost depends on cabinet quantity and construction, layout changes, quartz, demolition, installation, plumbing, electrical, flooring and finishing work. The most accurate starting point is a measurement-based estimate with the scope separated clearly.
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
Timing depends on whether the project is refinishing, cabinet replacement in the same layout, or a full renovation involving several trades. Custom manufacturing, product availability, site conditions and customer changes can also affect the schedule.
Do I need to replace everything in my kitchen?
No. If the existing layout and cabinet boxes are in suitable condition, cabinet painting, door replacement, refacing or a countertop change may update the kitchen without a complete replacement.
Can Kitchen4Less handle the cabinets, quartz and installation together?
Yes. Kitchen4Less can coordinate cabinetry, quartz countertops and installation as part of the written project scope, along with additional renovation work when included in the quote.
Do you provide free kitchen estimates?
Yes. Kitchen4Less offers free initial kitchen estimates. Photos, approximate dimensions and your preferred scope can help make the first discussion more useful.
Kitchen Cabinets
What cabinet box materials are available?
Cabinet construction can vary by product line and project. Options may include particleboard-based cabinet boxes and plywood upgrades. The selected construction should be identified in the project quote.
What is the difference between 30, 36 and 42 inch upper cabinets?
The difference is height and storage capacity. The right upper-cabinet height depends on ceiling height, crown or filler requirements, appliance clearances, proportions and the desired amount of storage.
Do new kitchen cabinets include soft-close hardware?
Soft-close doors and drawers are available and are included in many Kitchen4Less cabinet packages. The final hardware specification is confirmed in the quote or cabinet order.
Can I replace only my cabinet doors?
Often, yes. If the cabinet boxes are structurally suitable and the existing layout works, replacing doors and drawer fronts can be an alternative to replacing the complete kitchen.
What is cabinet refacing?
Cabinet refacing keeps suitable existing cabinet boxes while changing visible components such as doors, drawer fronts and selected panels or finishing pieces to create a new appearance.
Cabinet Painting & Refinishing
Can oak kitchen cabinets be painted?
Yes, many oak cabinets can be refinished. Oak grain may remain visible unless grain filling is included, and the existing condition of the doors and boxes affects the final result.
Do you spray cabinet doors?
Kitchen4Less cabinet refinishing can include sprayed finishes. The preparation and finishing process depends on the existing substrate and the agreed project scope.
Will painted cabinet doors ever show lines at the joints?
They can. Wood and MDF respond to temperature and humidity, and five-piece doors or joined components can develop fine visible lines as materials expand and contract seasonally.
Is cabinet painting cheaper than replacing cabinets?
It can be when the existing boxes, doors and layout remain suitable. Replacement may make more sense when the cabinetry is damaged, the layout needs major changes or additional storage is required.
How should painted cabinets be cleaned?
Use gentle cleaning methods and avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and prolonged water or steam exposure. Wipe spills promptly and follow any care instructions provided for the finish.
Quartz Countertops
Can quartz countertops be replaced without replacing the cabinets?
Often, yes. The existing cabinets should first be checked for condition, level and adequate support. Sink changes and removal of the old countertop can also affect the scope.
Why are there seams in quartz countertops?
Seams can be required because of slab dimensions, kitchen layout, access and fabrication or installation requirements. A seam may remain visible even when properly installed.
When is quartz templated?
Final templating is generally completed after the supporting cabinetry is installed and ready so the fabricator can measure the actual finished conditions.
Can quartz be used as a backsplash?
Yes. Quartz can continue from the countertop onto the backsplash for a coordinated surface. Tile remains another option depending on budget and design preference.
Planning, Installation & Service
What should I have ready before requesting an estimate?
Photos of the kitchen, your general goals, approximate room dimensions if available, appliance information and examples of styles you like are useful. Exact measurements are not required for the first conversation.
When should appliances be selected?
Final appliance specifications should be available before cabinetry and countertop details that depend on appliance dimensions are finalized.
What happens if hidden problems are found during renovation?
Concealed plumbing, electrical, moisture, structural or wall conditions can affect the original scope. When additional work is required, it should be identified and handled through an appropriate change to the project scope.
Do you use subcontractors or specialized trades?
Kitchen4Less may use or coordinate qualified independent trades, suppliers, fabricators and installers for specialized portions of a project. The applicable written project scope identifies the work being provided.
What areas does Kitchen4Less serve?
Kitchen4Less serves Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, Mississauga, the GTA, Niagara Region and surrounding Southern Ontario communities.

More Planning Questions
Can painting turn arched doors into shaker doors?
No. Painting changes the finish, not the door profile. If you want shaker fronts, discuss door replacement or refacing and whether your existing boxes are suitable.
Can laminate, thermofoil or previously painted doors be refinished?
Suitability depends on the material, adhesion and existing condition. Send close-up photos of peeling, edges and damaged areas. Some fronts are better replaced than coated again.
How long will my kitchen be disrupted?
Door work typically takes about one week off-site, with onsite work often taking two to three days. Confirm the actual sequence, kitchen access and curing precautions for your project.
What should a cabinet-painting quote include?
Confirm door and drawer counts, exposed boxes, panels, trim, preparation, repairs, grain filling, coatings, removal and reinstallation. Hardware changes and quartz work should be identified separately when applicable.
What is included in an installed quartz quote?
Ask whether templating, material, fabrication, edges, openings, delivery and installation are included. Confirm removal, disposal, plumbing reconnection, backsplash and waterfall details separately rather than assuming a square-foot rate covers everything.
Can I put hot pans directly on quartz?
Use trivets and follow the selected manufacturer's care instructions. Quartz is practical for daily use, but it should not be treated as immune to heat, impact or chemicals.
Can I reuse my existing sink or change its style?
It depends on the sink's condition, cabinet space, plumbing and fabrication requirements. Share its make/model or photos early so reuse or replacement can be included in the scope.
Why can a full-height quartz backsplash cost more?
It requires additional material, fabrication, openings and installation planning. Compare a complete quartz-backsplash scope with the selected tile alternative rather than comparing material prices alone.
Can I add an island to a small kitchen?
Possibly. Review room dimensions, appliance doors, work aisles, seating and storage together. An attractive inspiration image does not prove an island will fit your actual space.
What is included in a complete kitchen renovation?
The written quote defines the scope. Confirm cabinetry, counters, demolition, disposal, flooring, backsplash, plumbing, electrical, painting and installation responsibilities so there are no assumptions about inclusions.
Can I live at home during the renovation?
Discuss access, dust protection, utility interruptions and temporary cooking arrangements before work starts. The practical answer depends on the rooms and trades involved, rather than one promise for every project.
What warranty applies to my project?
Ask for the written coverage for your exact scope. Cabinet-refinishing workmanship, cabinet products, coatings, quartz and trade work may have different coverage and exclusions.
How are deposits and payments scheduled?
Your written agreement should identify the deposit, project milestones and remaining payments. Custom materials and scope affect the schedule. Confirm any financing availability separately before relying on it.
Can you renovate a condo kitchen?
Discuss building access, delivery restrictions, working hours and any required building approvals early. Confirm responsibilities before ordering materials or scheduling installation.
Can you work on an older home's uneven walls or floors?
Existing conditions should be measured and reviewed before final cabinet planning. Fillers, panels, levelling and related corrective work need to be identified in the scope rather than hidden behind a standard package.
How does an occupied basement kitchen affect the estimate?
Share access details, ceiling conditions and photos of existing services. Installation access, utility changes and surrounding finishing can affect the work.
What approvals are needed for my kitchen renovation?
Requirements depend on the actual work and municipality. Confirm applicable approvals and who will obtain them before work starts.
Can I replace only the vanity and countertop?
Often a focused update can be considered. Review dimensions, plumbing positions, storage and surrounding flooring or wall finishes so the quote captures everything affected by the replacement.
What should I send for a bathroom estimate?
Send wide room photos, the vanity/shower areas, rough dimensions and what you want to change. Note leaks or visible damage and include inspiration if available. Final scope follows review of the space.
